Good Afternoon Year 7 English Students,
After reading the assessment criteria for the Book Review assignment, you'll realize that you need to complete two entries to this blog. The first is based upon your research into which websites you have found useful (or not so useful) along with a short critique explaining your opinion. The second entry is a response to the post of some else in the class after visiting the site mentioned in their original entry.
Remember to ensure that your comments are both honest and polite when reviewing the opinions of others in your class.
Also remember to check back with the original assessment sheet to ensure you understand the assigned task.
Last hint, construct your entry in MS Word, edit it, and then post it as your grammar and spelling are also being checked in this exercise. On completion of your entry, sign off with your first name and initial (as your user name may confuse some people in the classroom).

While I was looking for a book review website I came across this, I think that it’s a good website because it is very clear and gives very good tips about how to write a book review in a step-by-step guide. I also liked it because it gave an example first up so that you can see the basic structure of a book review. This website also gives very good editing tips and ways of giving the reader a taste of the plot but not giving it away so that they do not want to read the book. I hope that all of you find it useful to write you book reviews.

Site review
ReplyDeleteThe site I found was very useful and it was called scholastic, this site has lots of great tips, steps and advice on how to do a book review.
The site offers five steps of how to write a book review. In step two, this site will give 10 steps on tips and steps from the start of the book review to the end of the book review.

ReplyDeleteThis web site that I found tells you how to write a book review. The reason I found it helpful is because it explains it step by step and gives you detailed examples. It tells you what steps there are and the order that you should write them in. The website I found was easy to read but at some points it could get a bit confusing.

I chose this website http://teacher.scholastic.com/writewit/bookrev/ because it explains how you can write a book review. It helps me think more when i'm stuck on something, I just go back and read it and it gives me an idea on what I have to do next without making a mistake.
ReplyDelete13 Little Blue Envelopes
ReplyDeleteI found a website called www.bartsbookshelf.co.uk (http://www.bartsbookshelf.co.uk/2011/03/09/review-13-little-blue-envelopes-audiobook-by-maureen-johnson/) and I found it very helpful
because it is a good website for book reviews and its easy to understand.
This book is about a girl from New Jersey who receives a package of 13 little blue envelopes, each with instructions from hear Aunt after she died. In this book it shows that she is being lead by letters from her aunty who had recently passed away.
This website was useful because it has been used before by other students who are in the same position as Im in.
P.S I love you
ReplyDeleteThis is the website I found,
http://www.shvoong.com/books/romance/1827617-love/
This website is useful for me because, it tells you the main part of the story and how the character resolves it, it shows what the book is based on what she does to help her through the rough time and it also shows the outcome of the story.
I have chosen to share with you this LEO webpage on how to write a successful book review because it is clear about the structure and components of a book review.

Unfortunately, it does not give an example. Here is a website that does;
http://littlepuku.blogspot.com/
I chose the scholastic site because scholastic sell and buy books they are a company that specialise in books so they know what there doing. I also used to buy books from them in year 3 & 4. I’m pretty sure most people have heard of them. They really made me understand a book review a lot better and it was in very understandable steps. I found that I had to keep reading because it I just wanted to know how to write one. http://teacher.scholastic.com is the site I choose.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Littlepuku (whoever that is) because the website is very clear about what you need to write about and highlight. Even if it doesn’t look like a very good website it is the content that matters. Good choice
ReplyDeleteI agree with littlepuku because the website explains all the steps simply and is easy to understand. It is very clear and easy to read but I think to adults it wouldn’t be very helpful because it is short and doesn't go in to much detail.

A website that I recommended is
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mahalo.com/how-to-write-a-book-report/
This website helps you write a great book report. The best thing about this site is that it helps you write the book review every step of the way. It gives you some tips on how to write a book report and helps you write a great introduction, body and conclusion. It also helps you with editing your book reviews. This website has many questions that you may be able to answer and include in your book review. This website is really easy to understand.

I chose these sites because they are easy to followand if you follow them correctly the end result is at a high standard. Thesesites contain useful facts to write a successful review on any book of choice. The sites that I chose are http://www.enotes.com/topics/how-write-book-reviewand http://library.queensu.ca/research/guide/book-reviews/how-write. The first site is a more adult style procedure that goes step by step on howto write a review and the second site is easy to follow and is good to use ifyou haven’t written a book review before.

A book review site that is good is;

This site shows how to write a great book review. It talks about what the story is about and whom the book could be shot at agirl or a boy category. You could put in gold stars to show how much you hatedthe book or how much the book should win an Oscar. The most two importantwriting components are to have the title and the author. These are the mostimportant pieces of the book review and it shows what the book might be likeand what the authors name and what other books he or she might have written. You can write questions about the book and then answer them like how does thebook involved in your life and is the book the type of one you want to read. Sothat is some of the ways to write a book review.

After reading http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-write-a-book-report/ I agree with what it says because it is clear, gives good tips and talks in a very understandable context. It also talks about all of the advantages and disadvantages of choosing and being assigned a book. But probably the best thing about it is it explains in step form so that it can be very easily understood for maybe younger readers. Interesting choice
ReplyDeleteReview the sites http://www.scholastic.com.au/ because the site was my chose.
ReplyDeleteI was reading the book from that site when I was in year 3 & 4 and that was a good site to read.it is good when kids is young and it is a good site when I was in year 3&4. It was interesting for me when I was at my old school because my old school was small

I think Niamh chose an excellent website, because it is clear, and goes into further detail if as well. It would be handy if you were to get stuck writing a review, because of this. I am probably going to use this website to write my review.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at www.lkwdpl.org/study/bookrep/ I very much agree with what it was saying about how book reports and book reviews are much different from each other. I also agree with its idea about how choosing the right book is very important to the review because if you choose the wrong book you will find it hard to write a god review. Great choice

ReplyDeleteI disagree with Aidan, Patrick and all the other people who thought scholastic was a good site. When i typed in HOW TO WRITE A BOOK REVIEW in the google box scholastic was the first up so i tried it out. It was to messy, i could not find the part that actually told me how to do a book review. I was probably doing it wrong, but i still think that they could make it clearer.
ReplyDeleteI think that the scholastic website is a great website because it helps you find a book that you are interested in and helps you step by step when you are writing a book report. It is very clear and also helps you edit your work.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the website www.lkwdpl.org/study/bookrep/, I agree that choosing the right book helps you write a better book review. It also tells you questions that you could include in your book review and it is explained in easy to read steps.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read Alex’s review I thought that it would be a good review to check out. I read through the site and it was excellent it showed step by step and shows the good and bad of a book review. I think this review would be good for our age group. Alex has chosen a great book review site.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read L.P (Littlepuku) I thought that it was really good book review. I think that the book review is for people like are age and he or she has set it out really well and how they explain how to write a good book review.
Angus
I agree with little Puku because, it gives you an example on how to write a book review, it also has ideas and hints for you, so you don't forget to put the important info in.
